Whether you use the Hebrew "Sheol" or the Greek "Hades" or "Gehenna" it is the word for the state of everlasting punishment and is now referred to as “Hell”.  Frequently it is not just named but described as a place of torment, of wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Worst of all it is described as the torment of flames while one is still conscious and that there is no passage from the tormenting side of Hades to Paradise.
